Build Good Icarex & Mylar stitching was nicely done no faulty seams noted. Mylar used on area of stress, panel surrounding the stand-offs. Covered leading edges to prevent line snags. YoYo stoppers already in place from the manufacturer. Frame Very Good Frame is of good quality, Skyshark P200 Lower Spreaders, 6mm carbon fiber Spine & Leading Edges possibly Structil? APA connectors, Exel split knocks. This kites favors the xt.s somewhat by graphics but trust me, its a totally different animal. It's not your Grandpa's run of the mill kinda kite.. The winds were far from perfect, gusty and fairly bumpy but fair winds all the same considering the time of the year, winds here in the South are far from being ideal during summer months. The kite is very fast and very responsive to small inputs. Don't expect to just pull the kite out and have it cater to your ever wim, until you get used to the kite. It took 30 minutes to just begin to get a feel for the kites preferred inputs, slightly different feel than the xt.s a very crisp and lively feel. In light winds the kite flew well at around 4mph and began to get even better at 5mph+. The kite will pitch and do so with-out hesitation, the kite could be rolled up with just a quick snap of the wrists. No bobbing when the kite was rolled up, this meant stopper placement to be correct. I was surprised to see a kite at this price range with covered upper leading edges, stoppers, and a pre-installed ballast(25grams). Good features on a kite at this price. Flapjack Good Slight hesitation was needed for the nose to drop, some bridle adjustments & ballast fine tuning help with this. Axel Very Good Axels the kite performed nice full 360 degree rotations with proper slack management & technique. Be aware if your transitioning from some Straight leading edge kites the set-up is slightly different. On the Cesium Axel are easy to access. Axel Cascade Excellent The kite is very quick doing these and I appreciated its ability to avoid tip wraps here, nice bridle set-up, more I tried the better and faster these came. Backspin Very Good Backspins were very fast & consistent with the Cesium. Backspin Cascade Very Good Move I've been working on for several months to become more accustomed to doing. Starting from a Fade and with agressive pops pulling the low wing while tending line slack management with the other hand. Reversing rotation on alternating sides from the low wing when dropped. Bridle seems to play a role in this move and a three point bridle seems to make it easier to pull these off. Comet Excellent to my abilities here This has been a tough one for me, one I worked on a long time with limited success after finding out a full 3 set was need by TP standards. Its ability to Axel Cascade I felt might indicate it potential to do this one, even though the flyer is somewhat limited on this one. I pulled off two nice fractured looking ones, and on the third I was so low the kite ended up nose into the ground on the last. The kites speed and agility stood out here and is very Comet capable even though I need work on this move & time as well. By TP standards no Comet but darn close. Cascade Excellent Doing Cascades I wasn't sure what to expect when trying the first ones, the kite is very pitchy and smaller inputs are need. Cascades can be paced either slowly or quicker, determined by input and hand speed. Doing them at a faster pace and doing the pop-up more agressively the kite would stay stationary, or slightly begin to rise doing these. Coin Toss Very Good Kite performed these well, more soon. Crazy Copter I only tried briefly, but I did get the nose to fall forward but winds were up and no rotation, but the kite did get into postion on the second attempt, I can do these but not enough time yet on Cesium. Fade Very Good Fade in winds was good considering the inconsistency of the winds, getting into a Fade and holding it there was not a problem at all. Flic Flacs Very Good Cesium passed with flying colors. Half Axel Very Good Flying across the window the kite performed half axels with clean exits with smooth lines when powering the kite back up, good speed control. Insane Good Cesium really shines here both on these and the Rolling Cascade. Jacobs Ladder Very Good Jacobs Ladder repeatable either one way or alernating right to left. Super-Start Excellent Another area were the kite performed very well. Lazy Susan Good Kite did well here, but again wait for nose orientation to sit deep before pulling, I was able to pull off several in succession starting high up in the window. Lewis Excellent I was able to get one as time was limited on this session, once rolled up getting the kite into a Lazy Susan and then cleanly pulling for the rotation and unrolling. Nice looking move, the Cesium made these look good. Multi-Lazies Good Once the nose sits deep pulling and waiting for the nose to come around with the nose deep, Multi'Lazies were easily done. Rolling Cascades Excellent The kite does the fastest ones I've ever seen, while being consistent. Slot Machine Very Good First Flights were limited but on first pull, let the kite flatten out a bit, then give the second tug and a good fairly quick flat rotation is result. Turtle Good Turtle position is good & stable. Wap-Do-Wap Excellent One of my favorite moves, from Fade pop both lines down evenly the kite rolls up on the lines, when the nose sits deep or drops pull at and outward angle. The rotation is very fast and at first I felt the kite would tip wrap but it didn't, clean fast nice rotation and back to flying position looked dang good doing it too.=^) Positive Comments Quick excellent trick capabilities, good Precision is there. Good value for kites potential, it would do anything I could do and ready for more than I was capable of. Advanced flyers cn pick up the rythm and fly more agressively. Beginners, kite shows good stability in most everything. Durable kite with Mylar on the high stress points, panel surrounding the stand-offs. Covered Leading Edges like its bigger sibling xt.s, factory installed ballast of 25grams. All things considered I like the kite very well, well rounded very versatile and it may well be one of my favorite two stand-off kites (More time spent flying will tell). It does most everything and it does them very well. Lot of kite for the price, I'd say a bargain considering what your getting and its capability exceeeds my expectations. Comes complete with line-set and bag everything needed to get you up & flying.
Update From Mathieu MAYET:
"Deep position" of the Cesium The Cesium is a radical kite during Turtle and yoyo, to have the "very deep position" very quicly and very deep, you have to put more energy for those tricks. To obtain the "deep position", start like doing a Yoyo and stop the kite when it's in the good position "very deep", this kite is very different than a Masque (for example) where you just have to wait for the good deep position, with a Cesium, you have to put the kite by yourself on the good position sometimes by hard pull. All those things can be applicated on other tricks, it will give you a new vision of some special tricks, for example, about Jacob Ladders (ours des prairies), if you do the "deep postion" with hard pulling, you will see a very fast jacob ladders, the kite will go up and up in the window, or about yoyo, if you pull some yoyos very hard, you can do multi-yoyo (2 or 3 yoyo)" That is excellent info... Thanks Mathieu. Dan-Icenum (USA) NB: This kite for money spent is unreal at what you getting into the kite price wise, Andy like you said there's nothing I can see far as lacking, just felt there was one thing that I needed clarification on. Mayet & Alex are extremly helpful offering advice. Frame geometry seems so well balanced on YoYo based moves it was surprising. Have you tried Insanes & Rolling Cascades on yours yet? If you want a low cost kite to work on most anything even Comets I believe this is a good choice. I may pick up another soon. |
